In this first post, I just want to give you guys a real look into what it means to be a boss but first I’m going to tell you guys a little bit about myself.

I’ve just turned 23, I’m a Gemini and I have an overactive creative mind. I’m the girl at the party that can have a ball vibin’ out to music and observing EVERYTHING. The way I take in a scene gives me a point of view and insight that you won’t find in too many people. I call myself the introverted extrovert because I crave and love social interactions but then I’m definitely better with one-on-one personal interactions with other people. People who don’t know me would probably say I’m quiet but then my close friends would say differently and if I get to know you on the one-on-one you would probably change your initial perception of me.

I have always felt different from other people and that’s partly because of my Nigerian heritage and just the trials I faced growing up without a mother or a father. My experiences have conditioned me to be very independent and it has also conditioned me to want to create my own path.

ComfortAboutMe

So, one day I was sitting in my apartment at Loyola University Maryland and I told myself that nothing was going to get in the way of my success, my creativity, or my motivation. I took a hard look at my passions, which include music and fashion, and I made a decision to structure my goals in life to lead me to my passions.

I decided that it is important to take my life in my hands and give it direction.

On May 21, 2016, I graduated from Loyola and it really led me to think even more deeply about what the next chapter of my life would embody. It was my promise to myself that kept me motivated to find a job and after 6 months of a relentless job search I really started to see a problem. My resumes were going into a black hole, all I wanted was to start my own path but I lacked direction, and I had no connections. How was I going to get a job? How was I going to stay motivated and find like-minded boss women and entrepreneurs? How could I connect with other women of color who are going through the same struggle?

This is really where #BOSSWATCH was born. #BOSSWATCH is a place where women of color can learn about other boss women, their process, their struggle, and how they made their own success story. #BOSSWATCH is also about taking a look into your mental health, self-care, and self-progress and really embracing the true meaning of a boss.

CONCLUSION

If you know that you are a boss and want to share your story. Drop a message in the contact form and let’s connect and create!
