R13 Ready To Wear Fall/Winter 2018

February 14, 2018 by cnkstylebook No Comments

Chris Leba, who is the master mind behind R13, presented a show and a design with a nuanced message. Leba expressed his concept to WWD saying:

I live in this world now where the environment and our national parks and all that are really beautiful and precious. We should fight to keep these.

His message of environmental conservation plays out in the details of each garment with cheetah, animal prints, and a Utah protest superimposed into the pieces. The entire collection had an edgy, street, vibe with oversized and boxy silhouettes.

NYFW Winter 18′ Collina Strada

February 13, 2018 by cnkstylebook No Comments

Indie brand Collina Strada showcased on Thursday right in the heart of Chinatown where she brought show-goers into a never before seen wedding ceremony. Hillary Taymour who is the genius behind indie brand Collina Strada is not like other designers who have had show concepts that are noted in little elements throughout the show. Instead, she throws the concept in your face so that by the time you leave you will know the exact influences and concepts behind the pieces.

In particular, this season was centered around a mock wedding and it wasn’t a wedding to any man or woman but a wedding to the self. The show was all about acceptance and love of a higher self. Main features of the show was Sasha Frolova who said vows to herself and also Instagram style sensations @double3xposure and @mollyblutstein who posed as her flower girls.

How To Get Into Fashion Week For The First Time

February 12, 2018 by cnkstylebook 7 Comments

This year was my first time attending NYFW and it was a great experience! NYFW is typically an industry event where designers, models, buyers, influencers, and fashion media or press are invited into a world of creative genius. However, what about the little people who dream of attending fashion week, breaking into the fashion industry and being privy to that creative genius? You may have been in the same boat as I this year with the desire to go but with the knowledge that you are not yet important enough to get invited, you don’t know anyone who can get you into the show and you’ve thought of requesting but your blog stats and following is not big enough to attract PR companies. You may feel like there is no possible way that you can get in but I’m here to tell you that anything is possible when you put your mind to it and you step forward with confidence.

If you are sharp, quick, and know how to finesse then you will appreciate the 6 ways I’ve learned to break into this exclusive event.

Assist, Assist, Assist

Do you have a useful skill and have the time to work for free? If so, then roll up your sleeves and don’t be afraid to send out an email and ask to be an assistant to either an editor, stylist, buyer, or journalist during fashion week. Figure out the best way to reach out to the person via Twitter or email and send them an extremely flattering email and why you would like to work for FREE and literally do anything that they require of you during that time. It will absolutely be a hectic job but at least you’ll gain access into the shows and the after parties.

Work With A PR Company

The route that I took this year t0 get into fashion week was via working with a PR company. There are many different PR companies that man fashion week and you can discover in advance who will be representing which shows through Modem Online which has a mostly complete list of PR companies and contacts. Simply search and email these PR companies with your intention to work for free and provide your resume and cover letter. Many PR companies need the help of workers to place seating assignments, place, gift bags, man check in, and usher standby seating. It is a pretty simple job and once complete you have the opportunity to watch the entire show and sometimes with great viewpoints.

Work As A Dresser

Are you a budding stylist? Do you have a portfolio of work and time on your hands to do some free work? If so then becoming a dresser may be your in and also a great way to network and meet with the models.

(Disclaimer the next insider tips are for the master finessers)

Sneak In Through The Backstage

In order to sneak in backstage you have to stroll in with confidence and you have to look like you have a job. Make sure that you are wearing all black, have a small notebook and pen, and be ready to simply walk inside. Some shows are at a warehouse with multiple entrances and if there is a door unmanned by security you can simply slide through quickly and slip in with the volunteers or look down at a notepad like you are a writer.

Slip In As A Standing Room Ticket

Observe the entrance of the show and figure out where the standing room ticket holders are sent. While ticketed show goers are ushered into the show, standing room is either directed to the other door or are asked to line up along the side entrance. If there is a big crowd going into that direction then simple blend into that crowd and get in when they call standing room to pass through to the show.

Watch For Thrown Away Press Passes

Photographers and tv crews are usually given a press pass for one day and after they are used sometimes they are just thrown away. If you are super observant you may be able to pick up on a discarded press pass and if the press pass is for a photographer than make sure that you have a camera on hand.

Top 5 Favorite Perfume Scents

February 7, 2018 by cnkstylebook No Comments

Valentine’s Day is just around the corner and you may be looking to gift yourself a new perfume scent or you may be looking to gift your best friend something special on Galentine’s Day.  The day of love is a celebration of all forms of love and it could mean self-love, family love or the love of that special person. Either way during this time it is important to appreciate all the loves of your life and that may also be yourself.

Perfume is a great gift to give during this time because it adds a special touch to your look. There are also a variety of different scents that can go from a clean scent, to a flowery scent or a smoky, woodsy or musky scent.

My perfume preferences are usually more earthy or woodsy, with a touch of floral. I never like a perfume that is too sweet smelling and if you have similar tastes then you will definitely like my top 5 favorite perfume scents for different occasions.

Here are 5 of my favorite perfumes:

Viktor Wolf

Viktor & Rolf Flowerbomb, $115

Viktor and Rolf’s Flowerbomb scent has key notes of jasmine, orange blossom and patchouli. It is the perfect mix of woodsy and floral and it is perfect for a night out in town, date just to feel sensual.

Burberry My Burberry Blush, $90

Burberry My Burberry Blush contains key notes of pomegranate, rose and jasmine and there also delicate notes of crisp and rose petal. This scent I tried and at first I wasn’t sure I loved but then throughout the day it dried into a soft rose scent. This scent is perfect for a dash of sophistication and is soft enough to be worn as a more everyday scent.

Paco Rabanne Olympea, $39 (On Sale)

Paco Rabanna was my first love and it still remains as my all time favorite. Olympea contains key notes of green mandarin, ginger lily, hydroponic, jasmine, salted vanilla, sandalwood and ambergis. It is definitely a bold and sensual scent and is perfect to add to a spicy outfit.

Tory Burch Belle Azur, $96

Belle Azur has key notes of mandarin, tuberose, and vetiver. This scent reminds me of summer nights and vacation. It is a more fruity scent but it’s compliments by delicate scents of cream cedarwood.

Clean Reserve San Santal, $95

San Santal has key notes of mandarin leaves, bergamot, nutmeg tonic, salted fig, violet, hazelnut cream, sandalwood, decadent amber, styrax, and rose musk. This scent is the perfect warm and clean scent for everyday use.
