April Fools Music Playlist

May 4, 2018 by cnkstylebook No Comments
Comfort-Miami

April was a challenging month but also a month that showed me that consistency will always be the key to seeing a result. It was a month of fruition as I was able to see that persistence, motivation, positivity and prayer can really get you closer to seeing a goal come to life. This month also taught me to never accept lower than my expectations just because it didn’t come in the time that I wanted it to come. Sometimes you really have to wait and see to get the results you desire.

Music continues to be a source of release, inspiration and calm for me as I step into this new month. As always, I am always searching for new artists and my April Fools playlist reflects my introspection in April as well as the new artists I discovered. One new artist that I discovered this month was Tdot Illdude. His song “Don’t Knock On My Door” sets the tone as a vibey, airy, bop that you’ll be tempted to playback. Another highlight of my playlist is Mya who has recently returned into the music scene with a new album. My playlist featured “Ready 4 Whatever” and “Damage which is reminiscent of the old Mya sound that we loved. Last, but certainly not least J.Cole released his album KOD, which gave an inside, look into his consciousness and thoughts on major topics like taxes, love, black wealth and also the current state of hip-hop. I featured my favorite single “Photograph” which touched on the new digital age and approach to love.

#BOSSWATCH: Meet Gazal Sethi Owner Of Forever Tiara

May 3, 2018 by cnkstylebook 1 Comment
Gazal Sethi Forever Tiara
Gazal Sethi Forever Tiara

Gazal Sethi who is the designer of Forever Tiara has always know that fashion was her lane as from a very young age. Forever Tiara is the personification of contemporary evening wear as it features clothing, shoes, jewelry, and accessories that fit a modern day woman. Gazal not only want to make an impact on the modern day women of today but also in starting the Sheel Maya Devi Foundation by the end of the year. The Sheel Maya Devi Foundation will raise money and awareness for girl’s education in India. I was able to talk with Gazal Sethi at the Young Designers Awards and Presentation this past Saturday where she shared her inspiration, past experience and what’s next.

How long have you been designing?

“I have been designing for about 2-3 years. I started off with a contemporary collection. The collection I am showing today was my first collection in evening wear. So that I started about 6-8 weeks ago.”

Where do you get your inspiration for your designs?

“I get my inspiration from culture. Each piece has an ethnic traditional feel to it so I try to stay constant with that in adding a little bit of a modern western feel to it.”

What was your first ever design?

“With my first ever design I think I was about 5 or 6. The design was on a napkin and  as funny as that sounds my mom took a picture of it and she framed it because it was like a full on ball gown that was just drawn on a restaurant napkin. After I took classes, my actual proper first design I can say was when I was about 17 or 18 and that is when I actually started constructing my own garments.”

What’s next for you?

“I want to continue expanding on my contemporary collection. I hope to see myself opening up my own boutique within the next couple of years and also partnering with higher end boutiques as well and just kind of appealing to more celebrity clients as well….I will also be taking part in style fashion week this year. ”

Comment down below if you can relate with Gazal in knowing your passion from a young age and pursuing it!

Kymberly Achuba Designs by K.Y.

Kymberly was by far my favorite interview as her brand immediately stood out amongst the designers that showcased as an edgy streetwear brand. Conversation was easy as it felt like I was talking to a friend. Designs by K.Y. came together in 2016 and ever since has been growing to embody African culture with a play in texture, color, and patterns that are eye-catching. My favorite pieces from her presentation were her standout fur coats as well as gold crowns that spoke for themselves. Kymberly biggest continual motivation is her young daughter who she wants to make proud. I met Kymberly at the Young Designer’s Awards and Presentation where she also shared with me her biggest inspiration for her designs.

I understand that as a creative you have to find your center and continually feed yourself with places, people, art, books or words to be able to inspire others with your art or inspiration.

What is the inspiration behind your designs?

“I am very inspired by music, Music is a huge component in my creations and many of my pieces have come together through my playlists.” My biggest style icon is Rihanna and she also influences my work.”

#BOSSWATCH: Meet Taylor Love from Taylor Love Couture

Taylor Love Couture

Taylor Love founded Taylor Love Couture in 2015 with the vision to create a brand that embodies luxurious street wear. Each piece that she curates is drawn, sewn, and made custom by Taylor. Taylor has known from a young age that fashion was her life’s work and has graduated with a Bachelors of Science in Fashion Design from Mount Ida College in 2016. Taylor Love Couture has two main collections out with The “Motorsport” Fall/Winter 2018 Androgynous line as well as her Fall/Winter 2018 Lingerie Collection with “Dia De Los Muertos” as the inspiration.

I was able to sit tall with Taylor to discuss her inspiration and where she will be next!

What inspired your 1920’s inspired pieces?

“I used a lot of different vintage kind of looks, like I wanted it to look very old Hollywood so I used like lace and feathers and silks, so very luxurious.”

When did you start taking fashion seriously?

“Yeah, well ever since I was a kid I was really not into anything at school like I couldn’t really find what was my niche and then I got to high school and there was a fashion class so I fell in love and that’s when I knew that this was something I could do for the rest of my life whether I get paid or not and be happy.”

Looking back, what did your first piece look like?

“Oh My God! It’s so funny you say that, because I literally just found it the other day. It’s like this cute little pajama top with a little scrunchie, and it’s got little rick rack straps that aren’t even appropriate as straps.” She said. “It was funny to see how far I’ve come and I’m so proud of myself.”

Where do you get your inspiration usually?

“Yes! My favorite question of all and my favorite fashion icon ever is Rihanna. The best style icon ever! I love her, that is my girl and I aspire to be her designer one-day.”

Where can we find you next?

“My next show will be in P Town at the Women of Color Weekend. It’s actually a LGBTQ event so it’s going to be in the Cape May 31-June 1st. I will be there showcasing my androgynous line.”

About me

Hello, My Name is Comfort and I am a blogger living in NJ.

This is a hub where fashion, motivation, and women of color can meet to inspire, support and motivate each other towards success.

I am not an expert but I think there is beauty in the process and I feel like more people should hear about the journey.
