Afro Punk Music Festival 2017 – Event Recap

September 5, 2017 by cnkstylebook No Comments
afropunk-bk

Afropunk Festival is an annual outdoor-music festival that occurs in Commodore Barry Park in Brooklyn. This year, the festival was Saturday, August 26th and Sunday August 27th. Afropunk is an all out celebration that hosts a wide range of musical artists, food trucks, live art, and markets with an array black-owned businesses. Afropunk did not only celebrate life but it inspired people to become involved with its Activism row which featured different non-profit organizations and initiatives to get people involved with their community and the world.

There was so much that Afropunk had to offer and the spirit of freedom and expression was apparent in the fashion of the festival revelers.

Musical highlights included SZA who rocked the red stage with highlights from her album CTRL.

Solange’s set was also the epitome of class with an ethereal quality to her performance and newcomers like Leikeli47 rocked the stage. Sunday, popular DJ’s like Sango, Kitty Kash and Kaytranada got the crowd pumped with their beats and mixes.

Amazing food trucks lined up and my favorite was definitely CoolHaus Ice cream where I had the chicken and waffles flavour.

Notable marketplace businesses were Cee Cee’s Closet and The Wrap Life where you could purchase Ankara pieces and specifically head wraps with matching chokers.

August Heat Playlist

August 31, 2017 by cnkstylebook No Comments

The month of August came out with a lot of note worthy hits. One project that I could not put on this playlist but deserves several listens and contemplation is definitely Jay Z’s 4:44. 4:44 is the album that every man should add to his collection because it gives a model of how to delve into your past, to better yourself as a man and to mentally prepare yourself for your present day. It also shows that it is okay for a man to be vulnerable, find spaces to reconcile his feelings, and that there is power in bettering yourself for the generations that come after you and supporting your fellow black businesses. This recap is just a tidbit of insight that can be gained from this project and the carefully curated footnotes featuring known artists such as Kendrick Lamar, Meek Mill, Chris Rock, Chris Paul, Will Smith, Michael B. Jordan, Mahershala Ali, and so much more! Catch this project on Tidal and on Apple Music.

Other noteworthy artists this month that I’ve had on repeat include Kelela with LMK, Tiffany Gouche´ with Dive and Jazmine Sullivan featuring Bryson Tiller with Insecure.

Summmer sun, fire, heat, passion, crescendo up, high pitch, rise up, light up, spread out, simmer down, suffocate, burn out.

Comment down below your favorite songs from this playlist!

I used WordPress as my content managing system so I will disclose how to search Themeforest for WordPress themes. As depicted in the screenshot below, it is easy to search WordPress themes by category. However, feel free to find a theme outside of your category that could also work well for your site.

Step 3:

Themeforest makes it easy to search for themes utilizing unique keywords and use a filter to ensure that you are only searching for WordPress themes.

Step 4:

Upon selecting a theme, you can add it to your favorites and review the themes that you like through the live demos. Read all the reviews and make sure that your theme comes with support.

Step 5:

When you preview a theme, make sure that you click around and go through the majority of the site pages to ensure that you are getting you vision. It is also important to make sure that you have a responsive theme that is compatible with not just desktop but tablet and mobile. Caribana 2017

August 24, 2017 by cnkstylebook No Comments
Caribana is Toronto’s Annual Caribbean Festival. The festival occurred on Saturday, August 5th 2017 at Lakeshore Boulevard from 10am-6pm and it is celebrated with thousands of masqueraders vibrantly exuding the spirit of Caribana in extravagant costumes. The weekend launched this year from Thursday, August 2nd-Monday, August 6th 2017. Caribana is also a celebration of life and pride in culture and tradition. Thousands of people attend Caribana with featured live music, Caribbean food, pineapple slushies, unique art and theatrical performances.

This year was my first Caribana experience and as a first time trip it is definitely a recommended trip. The city of Toronto offers a lot of picturesque, artful, backgrounds, a variety of food options including favorites such as poutine and shawarma, and sight seeing opportunities such as China Town and the CN Tower. It is also easy to get around through the subway system and coupled with Caribana events there is a lot to explore and enjoy!
