#BOSSWATCH: Kathleen Elie – Conscious and Chic

August 22, 2018 by cnkstylebook No Comments

kathleen-elie One thing about life is that it is extremely unpredictable, but you may fall under two categories with how you deal with the changes. You may be the planner who knows what they want, or you may be the dreamer who goes along with the ebb and flow of life. In both situations, life will still mold you, direct you, and you could still end up in a direction you never imagined. In Kathleen Elie’s path, she initially felt that she would become a fashion designer and she spent years honing her craft and working to build towards this dream until a single experience changed her perspective. After spending time in an impoverished area of Haiti she quickly decided that she wanted her career to surpass just creating clothes. She wanted to not only share her designs but also share her knowledge of what is happening in impoverished areas of the world and highlight others in the fashion industry doing social good.

It was from this vision that she created her site Fashion with a Conscious. Over the years she soon discovered that a conscious person not only craves information on more socially responsible clothing but that a conscious person also craves holistic information on being naturally beautiful, eating healthier and just simply being aware. Soon After, she built her lifestyle brand Conscious and Chic which offers more insight and community for individuals looking to live better lives. The biggest flaw that society has all together is to take, use and build without seeing the repercussions of our actions on the planet or to our being.

#BOSSWATCH: Elyse Fox

August 8, 2018 by cnkstylebook No Comments

A post shared by Elyse Fox (@elyse.fox) on Nov 6, 2017 at 11:09am PST

All it takes to build something that will make an impact is to carve out a space for yourself that you need. At the young age of 12, Elyse Fox has always felt like the outcast or like she couldn’t fit in like other people. Over the years, she found herself struggling with depression and in many cases people would downplay her depression simply because she didn’t “look” like a girl that dealt with these issues. Elyse felt like she didn’t have a space or a community to discuss her struggles with feeling different or even depression. It was from her need that she created her own space and community called The Sad Girls Club.

In an interview with Bustle Elyse stated:

I’ve never felt ‘represented’ in the mental health world. There are advocates, actresses, and other people in the media who struggle with mental illness, but there has never been a woman I resonated with who looked like me or who came from a similar background, and who said they struggle with mental illness with a sense of pride.”

Elyse hopes that Sad Girls Club doesn’t just become a trend but that it grows into something bigger than herself as a community for women to come together, share their stories and support each other. Sad Girls Club’s current main location is New York city but she hopes that it grows and expands past New York. The Sad Girls Club community can be found online and on Instagram at @SadGirlsClub.

#BOSSWATCH: Asiyami Gold

August 1, 2018 by cnkstylebook 1 Comment

A post shared by Asiyami Gold (@asiyami_gold) on Jul 9, 2018 at 11:51am PDT

Creativity is inborn and there are many people who aspire towards the many glamorous creative pursuits of becoming the next big photographer, artist, model, and influencer. Often times it is very easy to buy into the crowd and the hype but before you follow the crowd it’s very important to do a self check . Are you pursuing something because you love it and it’s a natural progression of your self realization or are you doing it simply because you know it will make you money or give you numbers. Asiyami Gold embodies creativity that ties into self-realization through her many pursuits. She is not only a  designer but she is also a photographer, creative director, traveler, and foodie. Her passion for travel is easily captured through her creative eye and the vibrancy of her images. In an interview with Karissa Mitchell from Saint Heron, she was able to advise on how to stand out in an overly competitive field.

There is still room for different perspectives. I try not to be engaged in what others are doing and I spend more time thinking about what I want to create next opposed to looking at other people’s work.

Also, Asiyami’s  love for an aesthetically placed dish also plays into her photographic journal of her travels. In 2013, Asiyami launched a self titled creative agency that encapsulates her creative vision. She states

There is a gracious kind of subtlety about a woman who has seen the voids and fullness of the world. This calm, collected seeing embodies Asiyami Gold and her eponymous creative agency.”

About me

Hello, My Name is Comfort and I am a blogger living in NJ.

This is a hub where fashion, motivation, and women of color can meet to inspire, support and motivate each other towards success.

I will post weekly look books, highlight businesses owned by women of color and offer any lessons and motivation I have learned along the way.

I am not an expert but I think there is beauty in the process and I feel like more people should hear about the journey.
